Motion Picture Association – Canada Files for Review of Unprecedented CRTC Decision to Force Global Streaming Services to Disclose Confidential Financial Information to the Public

TORONTO, ONTARIO, DECEMBER 18, 2025 – The Motion Picture Association – Canada (MPA-Canada), together with several streaming services, have filed applications to the Federal Court of Appeal to review the CRTC’s unprecedented decision to force global streaming services to disclose sensitive confidential financial information to the public.
The CRTC’s decision is at odds with the requirements of the law, undermines Parliament’s intent, and it is inconsistent with at least five other CRTC decisions issued over the past three years in which the CRTC acknowledged the competitive harm that would result from publicly disclosing this confidential information.
We will not be commenting further while the decision is before the court.

L’Association cinématographique – Canada (MPA-Canada) dépose une demande de révision concernant la décision sans précédent du CRTC d’obliger les services de diffusion en continu à rendre publiques des informations financières confidentielles
TORONTO, ONTARIO, 18 DÉCEMBRE 2025 — L’Association cinématographique – Canada (MPA-Canada), en collaboration avec plusieurs plateformes de diffusion en continu, a déposé une requête auprès de la Cour d’appel fédérale afin de réexaminer la décision sans précédent du CRTC visant à contraindre les plateformes internationales de diffusion en continu à divulguer publiquement des informations financières de nature confidentielle.
La décision du CRTC est en contradiction avec les exigences de la loi, ne cadre pas avec les intentions du Parlement et va à l’encontre d’au moins cinq autres décisions rendues par le CRTC au cours des trois dernières années, décisions dans lesquelles le CRTC reconnaissait le préjudice concurrentiel qui résulterait de la publication de ces renseignements confidentiels.
L’organisation préfère s’abstenir de tout autre commentaire tant que le tribunal n’aura pas rendu sa décision.
