Supporting
Storytellers

Delivering creative content to the screen depends upon the creativity, passion and commitment of creators from a wide array of backgrounds, geographies, skills, and pursuits.

The Motion Picture Association is dedicated to telling the stories behind the stories, to showcase the work, challenges and triumphs of those who have chosen to entertain, inform and educate us. From cinematographers and editors to make-up artists and set builders, the film, television and streaming industry would not be what it is today without the contributions of these uniquely talented creative professionals.

The future of our industry lies in protecting the rights of creative communities, and in ensuring our creative content and our businesses accurately represent the diversity of our communities and our audiences.

Given their size, international reach, and access to a larger pool of capital, global studios and streamers are taking risks on emerging talent, and offering training programs to help Canadian creative workers acquire the skills that will position them for success. Through both production and non-production initiatives, global studios and streamers provide multiple pathways for Canadians to access above-the-line and below-the-line work in the audiovisual, television and streaming industry.

Advancing Equity, Diversity & Inclusion

Representation matters – on both sides of the screen. From our media networks to our movie studios, diversity and inclusion drives creativity and stimulates innovation in film, television, and streaming. We believe we are all elevated when our stories are those that reflect the viewpoints and experiences of all creators and audiences.

The MPA Studios are proud partners in the creative community, with shared commitments to equity, diversity, and inclusion – both in front of and behind the camera. Today, their global streaming services provide a wide range of entertainment choices for consumers everywhere, with content that reflects the viewpoints, experiences, and diversity of society and the world around us.

While real progress is being made across the entertainment industry, there is still much work to do.  Learn how the MPA member studios are working to address diversity, gender parity, authentic cultural representation, and pipeline recruitment opportunities from underrepresented communities:
