Who Are Movie Thieves?

Movie piracy is stealing, plain and simple. Movie piracy is the unauthorized copying, distribution, or use of copyright protected material. Pirating a movie is a crime, just like going into a store and stealing a DVD, except the effects of movie piracy can be much more serious.
Some people download movies from the Internet believing that they can remain anonymous and that their actions aren’t hurting anyone. They are wrong. In 2005 alone film and television production generated over 124,000 jobs in Canada.
These employees, Canadian retailers, cinemas and producers are all harmed by movie piracy. Piracy is a growing international problem and a serious challenge for the movie industry.
